What this is
A single-town monitor of storm overflows on the River Frome and its tributaries around
Frome, Somerset. It checks Wessex Water’s near real-time event duration monitor feed
every 15 minutes and keeps its own history — the feed itself publishes only the current
status.
Reading the map
Each pin is an overflow, coloured by its state at the last check: red discharging
now, amber discharged within the last 48 hours, green not discharging,
grey no signal. Tap the clock for every monitor’s last 90 days.
What it can’t tell you
A monitor records when an overflow starts and stops — not how much was released,
and not whether the water is safe. Monitors can trigger on debris or vegetation, so an
activation indicates a discharge rather than confirming one. If a monitor spills twice
between two checks only the second is recorded, so the totals are a floor.
These figures will not match Wessex Water’s regulator-verified annual returns.
